2018 Class Schedule

Learn To Spin

Thursdays January 4, 11, 18, 25 from 6:30-8:30


In these four sessions you will learn to spin on a spinning wheel, wash wool. card and comb wool. You will also learn to ply, wind a skein and learn about wool and other fibers available to handspinners. You will have a wheel to use during the 4 weeks so that you can practice at home, the things you learn each Thursday.

Learn To Felt

Saturday January 13, 2018 from 9:30-4:30 


This is a beginner class designed to introduce participants to a variety of wet felting techniques. We will make flat felt, 3 dimensional felt using resists, needle felt and the use of pre-felts to create unique designs. 

Exotic Fibers

Saturday January 20, 2018 from 9:30-4:00


In this spinning class, participants will learn about yak, camel, quiviut, cashmere, pygora, angora goat, angora rabbits, silk, llama and alpaca. You will learn about the animals, their habitat, examine their fiber properties and look at a variety of fiber preparations. Participants will leave with a well organized notebook of the sampling done during the day,

Felted Slippers

Saturday February 3, 2018 9:30-4:00


This one day class will teach you how to make 3 dimensional felt using a resist to make a pair of wool slippers to fit your foot. You do not need to have felting skills but it is helpful. Participants will leave class with a pair of wool slippers. This class requires some upper body strength to felt with a washboard. 

Learn to Knit a Pair of Socks

Tuesdays February 6, 13, 20, 27 6:30-8:30


This knitting class will teach you how to knit a pair of wool socks on double pointed needles. You will learn to cast on, knit, purl and decrease. At the end of the 4 weeks, you will have completed a pair of socks. 

Learn to Knit a Pair of Mittens

Thursdays February 8, 15 & 22 6:30-8:30


This knitting class will teach you how to knit a pair of wool mittens on double pointed needles. You will learn to cast on, knit, purl, decrease and increase. At the end of the 3 weeks, you will have a completed pair of mittens. 


Saturday February 17, 2018 9:30-4:00


This class introduces you to the ancient art of Japanese braiding on a marudai. Particpants will learn how to wind the bobbins and will braid a round, square, flat and spiral braid using eight tama (bobbins). No previous experience is needed. Equipment will be provided for use in class. 

Tapestry Needle Felt

Saturday February 24, 2018 9:30-4:00


Students will begin on a white pre-felt base used as the blank canvas. You will learn to use the felting needles to create a picture, designing your own personal tapestry. Come with an idea, or become inspired with the designs here. Tools will be available and I have an abundance of tips and advice to help you accomplish tapestries effortlessly. We will spend the last hour of class, learning to wet felt our finished designs. 

Fine Tune Your Spinning

Tuesdays March 13, 20, 2018 6:30-8:30


This class is designed for spinners that have already achieved very basic spinning skills. Specifically you must be comfortable making a continuous strand of yarn. This class will take you to the next step in your spinning skills. We will work on specific drafting and spinning techniques, gain a better understanding of worsted and woolen, look at fiber preparation and talk about the properties of fiber. 

Fiber Preparation

Saturday March 24, 2018 9:30-4:00


Well prepared fibers spin easily into beautiful yarns. We will cover both drum carding and hand held combing of fine and coarse wools, color blending, luxury fiber preparation and separation of guard hair from undercoat. We will also spin the carded and combed preparations to view the difference between woolen and worsted yarns. This class will provide particpants with a greater understanding of all kinds of fibers and their properties.


All classes are held at The Spinning Studio, 1062 South Road in Bradford, Vermont 05033. Classes will be cancelled 2 weeks prior to the date if there is insufficient registration. To register for a class, please send a check for 50% of the cost of the class. This is non-refundable UNLESS the class is cancelled because of lack of interest. The remaining 50% of the fee is due on the day of the class.
